« Danae is a contemporary and critical replay of the classical representations of « Danae and the Golden Rain ». Embodying a powerless siderated Danae that breathes through a small throat like opening in the still surface of the bath in which she might drown, the artist exacerbates the symbolic violence of Zeus’ elemental metamorphosis.
Regarding the recent research conducted in the field of psycho traumatic response to rape, this action shows a female character going through a state of sideration. She remains underwater, uncapable of screaming, fighting or escaping.
The water represents Zeus’ desire, as a heavy ice plate instead of a golden rain. It is almighty, inevitable and deadly.
The public witnesses this motionless struggle. Danae’s life being suspended to a forced kiss that prevents her from drowning. »
