Educational psychology: Why we should go to nature with children more often…

Spending time in nature has many positive psychological effects on children (and adults). Studies suggest that impressions of nature can restore attentional resources (Attention Restoration Theory; Kaplan 1989, 1995) and make people more socially attuned. Thus, regular trips to nature could possibly prevent many problems and conflicts early on….
But nature not only has valuable effects on our psyche, but also on our health (and in children, especially on the development of their eyes). For example, recent studies suggest that children who spend too much time indoors (in the dark) are at great risk of becoming nearsighted because too little light enters their eyes….
